Took less than a minute to get the book. Comment by scollinsgt I found this just now in STV I looted it on my 3rd Mixed Ocean School node. Comment by Monthy Think I've written about this before, but if so It now needs to be underlined even more. To get the weather-beaten Journal, the last 4 times I've with success done exactly the same routine.
Take the portal in Stormwind to the Dark Portal. To the right of this crate is always a floating wreckage unless somebody just fished it that I fish in. It drops red crates every time, last time it dropped 4 crates on 4 throws and the journal was in the first. Thought I would get 1 journal extra for my last char. Now I only have my eleventh char left on this realm and he will for sure also do the same routine. Comment by Theolol During patch 6. Incidental details: I was at level 90 with under fishing skill.
So I'm going to have to get 25 more before I can even use the book haha. Comment by kwjohnstone Where i've gone for every toon since HFP was released, was Zangarmarsh in hellfire, not the new one You're welcome.
Side note, requires fishing to read, but not to get. Comment by td Not sure if this has been asked, but my level 16 Human Paladin got this so far she's the only one who's gotten it but I can't find the actual spell. I had assumed it would be next to the fishing spell under the professions tab but it wasn't. I looked in all of my Abilities as well.
I also saw that it required level 40, but I was able to read the book fine once I had gotten fishing. Maybe I need to be level 40 for it to show up so I can use it? Maybe I'm just not looking in the right place? I'm not sure. Also, I had got the book from Catherine Leland in Stormwind. I was doing her second daily quest, to catch some kind of bass by digging up overgrown earth worms and attaching them to your line.
She gave me 2 fishing skill points and a bag of shiny things, which contained the book. Comment by anonsequitur You no longer have to fish in nodes containing debris to find a journal that teaches "find fish. The other three were found in fishing nodes that contained no debris.
Of course, all journals were contained in boxes or chests fished from the nodes. Comment by jhessail found a water tight trunk while fishing a sagefish school in wetlands moss hide fen.
Comment by Septh Seems this ability was removed in 7. I'll try and see if getting another Weather-Beaten Journal helps. Comment by Alise Found this while fishing from a pool in Suramar. Comment by Butterxface I got my journal from a fishing quest from my fishing hut in my own garrison in Draenor. It was in a "bag of fishing supplies" rewarded for the quest. Comment by crayno66 Wetlands confirmed, got a weather beaten cask after 5 casts and it contained the weather beaten journal.
Comment by Lobbas Super easy to get. I went to Wetlands to try get the Journal to learn "Find Fish" for the first time. I went around the northwest coast but didn't see any wreckage. Then I went to the lake in southeastern Wetlands, where I found several "Schooner wreckage".
In the 2nd wreckage I got my Weather-Beaten Journal. Took just 5 minutes. Comment by Hoshii Came here to find where the best spot for the ship wreckage pools. Sadly, Wetland nor Hillsbrad had terrible spawn rate on wreckage. Then I remembered where I obtained my very first one when the journal first came out.
It was in Blasted Lands. Found an insane amount of wreckage pools along the east coast and all the way up in Swamp of Sorrows. Great spot to find the journal. This is the quickest spot to get to IMO.
Just take the Blasted Lands portal from Main City and you don't have to travel very far at all to get started farming. Comment by Deuxbebes Daily fishing quest in UC gave me the journal.
Comment by alessandrouw I came here to make a more up-to-date comment. This is from 8. I had many alts before and I had easily found Weather-Beaten Journal in every one of them that I never bothered with guides or locations. I'm not sure if the drop was nerfed or if I just got really bad luck, but it took me more than an hour to find my first journal in 8. My second journal on an alt came much faster after some data gathering.
What I have found out so far: You only need fishing skill and nothing more you don't need a fishing rod equipped either Normal fish pools from classic and burning crusade do drop boxes, but they are much rarer than trying to fish wreckage pools Might be my luck, but it seems classic wreckage pools vanish after much fewer casts, netting less boxes So, forget Wetlands, Hillsbrad, any of those comments here.
They do have wreckage, but the respawn are so far, rare and wide. Also, it seems that those pools lasts fewer casts, which is terrible. I fished several wreckage pools without any boxes. Your best bet right now is to just go to Zangarmarsh and circle any lake for Steam Pump Flotsam. I found more flotsams in Coilfang Reservoir lake the biggest in the middle but the others spawns as well.
The respawn is pretty decent to the point you won't have much downtime. It took me around 5 to 10 Heavy Supply Crate per journal. Much faster than going to Wetlands or some sort of remote classic map.
Save yourself from this trouble. Also, as others have already mentioned, any box you get from fishing can have a Weather-Beaten Journal if you don't already have Find Fish learned. If you already have Find Fish and you want to fish for an alt, you can fish boxes and mail to alts and they can find a Weather-Beaten Journal - just do not touch the box or try to peek inside, just mail them or trade to a friend.
It seems that "peeking inside" might delete the journal, but I have no idea about this specific iteration. Something that also works is to get an alt that has never learned Find Fish and open boxes without auto loot. When you find a journal, just close the loot window and mail the box to a friend or alt you want to learn it. Hopefully this guide helps you to make some of that sweet gold.

To increase your fishing skill above , you'll need to be level 35 and have fishing skill and visit Lumak , the Horde fishing trainer in Orgrimmar , or Grimnur Stonebrand , the Alliance fishing trainer in Ironforge.
Both will direct you to Nat Pagle in Dustwallow Marsh Sitting on an island in Dustwallow Marsh who will give you a quest to get your fishing to a ceiling. You may also travel directly to Nat Pagle for the artisan fishing quest without first visiting Grimnur Stonebrand or Lumak.
Normal fish are the most frequently caught. They are a free source of food and skillups for cooking, although they they do not provide buffs like some other cooked foods.
If you're able to heal yourself or have a reliable supply of bandages, you probably won't need to bother keeping the normal fish you catch. However, it is frequently good to go ahead and cook it, whether for skill or not, and then you can generally sell it for a higher price even at the vendor. Some fish are used in Alchemy to create potions and oils. Several fish you can catch contain other items, so don't forget to open them when you catch them:. These infrequently-found non-locked crates are labeled "Venture Company Supplies" and always contain a small quantity of engineering supplies such as Rough Blasting Powder , Iron Strut , etc.
These infrequently-found non-locked trunks may contain bolts of cloth, leather, and uncommon quality gear. These chests have rather disappointing contents compared to the Trunks routinely fished from Floating Wreckage.
They generally only contain bolts of cloth, leather, and very rarely uncommon quality gear. Various clams can be fished and should be opened for clam meats and occasional pearls. Messages in a Bottle are infrequently found from ocean fishing in zones of level Contents may include:. The following items are only available from fishing, but are very rare. Some can fetch high prices at auction due to their uniqueness.
Certain rare fish can be caught which can be wielded in the off hand. These fish serve no purpose other than as trophies to be displayed proudly to other players. These fish include the following:. Starting in Patch 1. Similar to the schools of fish particular to the Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza , players will be able to catch specific fish and valuable items if their cast lands in the school.
After several fish are caught, the school will disappear. Schools seem to respawn in a similar way to mineral nodes or herbs. Schools of fish also contain the following semi-valuable items with high frequency. These same items are also found in Floating Wreckage:.
Each zone has an associated level of fishing that defines the approximate difficulty of catching a fish. Fishing is different from other skills in that the likelihood of raising your fishing skill is not dependent on the difficulty of area in which you fish. You have a chance of raising your skill every time you successfully catch a fish; this chance is related only to your current fishing skill the higher your skill, the less often you will get skill increases.
The higher your fishing skill is in relation to the level that a zone requires , the easier it will be to catch fish you have fewer fish get away.
If your skill is too far below the zone's requirement, you will not be able to cast at all. Zones usually have a fishing level of 5 times the average level of monsters in them, but some zones vary considerably from this rule of thumb. There are 4 separate intervals of fishing times. These intervals are 6ampm, 12pm-6pm, 6pmam, and 12am-6am. During this time the drop rates of certain fish varies, for example, Sunscale Salmon and Nightfin Snapper. According to experimentation, the cycle appears to be the following:.
